When you think of Syracuse, New York, tacos probably aren’t the first thing that come to mind, but if you’re looking for the perfect bite and a place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Syracuse, New York, bet on XO TACO on E. Fayette St. You won’t regret it!
Stay for a while, but if you can’t, takeout, curbside pickup and delivery are available. The restaurant is a complete vibe and makes for an instagrammable moment with its lippy green wall, funky hanging lights and gold cap grillz — say cheese! The aesthetics paired with a fire playlist, will make you want to stay well beyond your welcome.

Cinco de mayo food
The ambiance draws you in and then the menu takes you on a wild ride through taco town. It brags a variety of options ranging from dairy, gluten free, vegetarian and vegan. Fire emojis placed on the menu indicate which options are muy caliente! No taco lover is left behind and if you want even more spice on yours, XO has three different hot sauces, made in-house, that you can try! Some of my favorite menu items are the hot chix, lobster, oaxacan beef and crispy fish tacos. I’m also a sucker for the XO street corn, which is covered in Flamin’ Hot Cheetos dust, queso fresco, chipotle crema, cilantro and lime. I’m not drooling, you are.
Pro tip: Start with an order of warm tortilla chips and guac or queso for the table. It’s some of the best guac and queso I’ve ever had.

Cinco de mayo drinks
Celebrating Cinco de Mayo in Syracuse, New York (or really anywhere) wouldn’t be the same without a cocktail (or four) and the ones at XO Taco come strong and delicious. On Cinco de Mayo, my drink recommendation is the Volcàn De Mi Tierra house margarita pouches, which hold the equivalent of three XO Taco margs in a pouch. They’re available ONLY on cinco de drinko, so don’t miss out! Any other day, I’d recommend the frozen margs / Frosè — especially on a Friday when they’re just $5.
Pro Tip: Visit XO Taco with a group that doesn’t mind sharing and splitting the tab. The food is served family style and most people order a bunch of different tacos and share with one another. It’s more fun that way!
