the best sunflower fields in providence, Rhode Island for instagram pics
I know you’ve seen those instagram shots of people aimlessly walking through a dreamy field of sunflowers and you probably thought, “hey, where can I find one of those?” If you’re visiting Providence, Rhode Island this summer, you’ll find one at a location called 10,000 suns, found between S. Water and S. Main streets. I can guarantee you it’s a stop you’ll want to pull over for. There you will find one of the best sunflower fields in Providence, Rhode Island for instagram photos and lots of space to take them uninterrupted.
10,000 suns: “a botanical performance”
10,000 suns is a living art installation, a sunflower park and what the creator calls a “botanical performance.” I can literally see sunflowers dancing in my head right now. On this blossoming plot of land, you’ll take in the beautiful views of these statuesque blooms, framed by a backdrop of the Providence city skyline. Can you believe that this urban garden was once a vacant, polluted lot that sat under the I-195 highway? Woah! What a transformation— made possible by community volunteers. Yep, created and cultivated with love. It TRULY took a village. The once toxic open space, now draws in hundreds of people daily during peak season.
let’s talk about the birds and the bees
Nestled within the sunnies are insect hotels… Yep, you heard that right. They’re ideal for the critters that call this place home. Talk about living in the lap of luxury lol. The hotels provide shelter for the thousands of bees and other bugs that flock to this spot. The garden is also a great sanctuary for birds to get their grub on. Everyone wins here!
More than just flowers
On any given day, you can catch couples taking wedding photos, small groups of friends doing it for the gram and people sitting solo enjoying a picnic. There’s enough space to be socially distant, while taking in the sights and sounds of the garden.
After snapping hundreds of selfies only to choose one, you can enjoy restaurants and shops just steps away. If you’re lucky, a lemonade or ice cream vendor will be on the sidewalk, waiting to serve you up something nice and refreshing.
There’s a pedestrian bridge where the vendors hang and the Providence River flows below. You can walk, run or ride a rented scooter over it, but don’t forget to pause and look below, where you’ll see people rowing past in gondolas. Rhode Island has that Italian swag and influence. Bellissimoooo!
Is providence Rhode Island worth visiting?
10,000 suns has given this part of the city renewed life and visitors another great reason to come. I’d say Providence, Rhode Island is indeed worth visiting. It’s also my hometown… so call me bias if you want. Comment below if you’ve ever considered visiting Rhode Island! 10,000 suns is a testament to the growing city and the people who care about it most. This project was made possible by Rhode Island School of Design Adjunct Prof. Adam E. Anderson, along with volunteer artists, students, architects and people who just wanted to help. Pretty dope! Come see for yourself.

I have considered visiting, and I hope one day I’m actually able to do so. The two biggest takeaways for me: the fact that this gorgeous garden was once an abandoned, polluted lot AND the insect hotel. Both concepts are incredibly dope. Thanks for sharing this with us!
